Own the Stress

We all know that stress is a big part of home health. We, home health employees, are a slave to our work. Its not the kind of job that we can forget about when we leave the office. Since most of us are rarely in the office, we tend to take our work home with us. Our patients are on our mind 24 hours a day. This then affects our life at home. Relationships are tested, chores are forgotten, and someone ate ALL the food in the house. We devote our entire life to our work.

I have something to tell ya...

Sometimes its okay to be selfish...not all the time...but sometimes it's about you. When you leave your last of 10 patients for the day, find a way to take an hour for yourself. Sitting in traffic for an hour does not count. I have heard from other coworkers that they like to go to the gym. Though I think that running on a treadmill is painful, boring, and monotonous, some say it does the trick. I personally like to scrapbook and do other crafts. Reading a good book is good too.

I don't have to tell you that being extremely stressed can lead to a life of cardiovascular and psychiatric problems. Neither of these sound appealing. So, do yourself a favor and own the stress, don't let it own you. Grab stress by the pair and do something for yourself. Remember...

SOMETIMES IT'S ABOUT YOU!

  1. TRUE.
I beg to disagree with your comment about going to the gym though. Obviously my dear, you haven't been to one lately. There are a lot to do in any gym and the end result is so much that I encourage anyone and every one to find the nearest gym and be a member.
Admittedly, it took me a while to enjoy going to the gym. That is why, I encourage you to hire a trainor to get you started. I tried doing it on my own and like you said walking on the treadmill for an hour is monotonous and boring. It is not something anybody would look forward to do. You will only enjoy your gym experience if you have a goal and know how to achieve it by using all the equipment and facilities the gym has to offer. This is where a trainor can help. A good trainor will guide you in the right direction. The gym is just a place that house the tools that you need.
I have strong opinion with this because as we are talking about the stress our job throw at us everyday, couple that with the demands of our personal lives, it is tiring. The pressure builds and builds and before you know it, we're acting worse than our craziest patient. At least, our patients have an excuse: they have a condition.
I strongly agree, we've got to do something for ourselves, just give ourselves a break and do something. I suggest going to the gym but do it properly so you'll enjoy the experience, that way the end result will be a healthy body and a healthy mind.
